SUMMER FUN

Riverside Subaru in New Bern, NC, recently demonstrated their commitment to their community by generously donating supplies, like bottled water, toiletries, snacks, condiments, youth camp sponsorships, etc. to the local Boys and Girls Club summer camp program for the month of July. As a proud partner, Riverside Subaru understands the importance of supporting youth enrichment activities and ensuring that children have access to a fun and educational summer experience. Their contribution reflects their dedication to making a positive impact and fostering a brighter future for the children of New Bern. They were very excited to have us participate in their day by offering a tour of our facility and some future job descriptions that we look for as some expect to graduate soon. It was a blessing of an experience for both parties. So glad to support these young men and women.

The Navy League has three missions: to enhance the morale of active-duty personnel and their families; to inform Congress and the American public on the importance of strong sea services; and to support youth through programs such as the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Junior ROTC and Young Marines that expose young people to the values of our sea services. Over the last 5 years Riverside Subaru of New Bern, a member of the Riverside Automotive Group, has been the title sponsor for the Coastal Carolina Navy League Council’s annual fund-raising event called the Lee W. Horne Memorial Golf Tournament. The Coastal Carolina Navy League Council want to express our most sincere thanks to Riverside Subaru and their staff who as our title sponsor have been extremely supportive of all our Council’s efforts to provide support to our local organizations. Without the Riverside Subaru support our Council would not have been able to meet or increase our donation goals. With the proceeds from our 21st annual Lee W. Horne Memorial Golf Tournament we have surpassed $100,000 in total donations this year with the Riverside Subaru help. The local recipients of these proceeds are the youth-sponsored sea service programs (4 NJROTC programs at our local high schools and the Sea Cadet program), sea service personnel and their families, and other local veterans’ programs in Eastern North Carolina. During the past 21 years, the Council has awarded over one hundred (100) Theodore Roosevelt Youth Medals (the highest Navy League youth award) to deserving NJROTC and Sea Cadet participants and over sixty (60) partial college scholarships to deserving high school seniors. In addition, the Council provides a yearly cash donation to our local NJROTC units to help cover some unfunded requirements. In addition, the Council’s provides ongoing support of sea service personnel and their family’s awarding money for the Serviceperson-of-the-Quarter at MCAS-Cherry Point, Volunteer-of-the-Year at MCAS-Cherry Point, and the Sailor-of-the-Quarter on our adopted USCG cutters. Thank you again for your continued support Riverside Subaru.

Giving Is Receiving

Riverside Subaru contributes a check for $16,545 to help cover expenses for the new Colonial Capital Humane Society facility. Please make your way down to adopt not shop. Check out this awesome story from the Adoption Coordinator. On January 3, 2024 Colonial Capital Humane Society was contacted by a local business owner in reference to an emaciated dog that had wandered onto their property. One of our volunteers immediately went to help. Upon arrival, the dog (now named Lucy) was noticeably underweight and lethargic. But despite being unable to walk she had the the sweetest demeanor. Once seeing Lucy’s condition, CCHS took Lucy to the veterinarian for care. Lucy was only 37 pounds, literally just and bones. Lucy’s fur was also stained with urine and she had several open wounds on her body. Once treated, CCHS found a foster home for Lucy where she could rest safely. Lucy flourished in her foster home. She not only did she gain weight and heal her external wounds, Lucy learned to trust humans and other animals again. Lucy tested HW positive and had multiple intestinal parasites but was treated immediately and has since gained about 20 pounds. Lucy spent 3 months in her foster home until CCHS placed her with a wonderful family. Lucy now has a family of her own and is loved beyond measure! With the amazing support of Riverside Subaru we are able to jump into action and get these dogs the care they need to start their journey. Thank you Subaru for your continued support. -- Adopt... Christmas Adoption

My name is Tracy Henry and I wanted to share a story about a very special young man in my life and how Riverside Subaru made his Christmas Holiday one to remember. My son is a single dad, who works at a prison and so wishes to remain anonymous, but he is the father to my very special grandson, Aaron. Aaron has down syndrome, and as such has many appointments he has to go to such as speech therapy, physical therapy and it seems like he always has a doctors appointment my son is having to leave work to take him to etc, which forces him to miss work quite often. Due to all the doctors appointments, no support from Aaron’s mother, and medical bills, my son was not able to afford any extra this holiday season to get Aaron gifts for Christmas. The only gifts my grandson received were those from his extended family like myself, who also are struggling due to the current economy. A good friend of mine works for Riverside Automotive Group and I guess somehow in passing mentioned my grandsons story to the manager at Riverside Subaru, who then proceeded to search me out, and offered to sponsor my grandson for Christmas. I got with my son, and put together a small list of things Aaron would like to have for Christmas, but mostly things that he needs and relayed that information back to him. They then proceeded to go out and purchase everything on my grandson’s list and then some, wrapped all the presents, and then put them under the Christmas tree in their showroom. What a blessing it was to be able to take him in to their beautiful new facility and allow him to be around so many wonderful people who loved on him and made him feel extra special. I can’t say enough about what this act meant to my family, and my son! Thank you so much Riverside Subaru!!!

3rd Annual Christmas Bike Delivery

Owner Dustin Tyson and the Riverside Subaru Family love to give back to the community and does so at Christmas with a donation of bicycles to our local Boys & Girls Club of the Coastal Plain. Our contact, Andrea Nix, Sr. Vice President of Operations & Programs and her team does so much to support and enrich the lives of our children throughout the year. It is a pleasure coordinating and working with Andrea every year!

The Story of Ashton and Kutcher

Have you ever seen a dog with no fur, dried, cracked, and scabby skin, and swollen and inflamed paws? Well chances are it was likely a dog with Demodex Mange. Demondex mange is a parasite mite that lives in the hair follicles of a canine. It primarily occurs in dogs less than 18 months of age due to immature immune systems. Fortunately, it is not contagious to other animals or humans. In August 2021, we got a call to save this poor sweet dog. Furless, other than a few random tufts. Red and swollen, his paws were 3 times the size they should have been. But the most BEAUTIFUL eyes you ever saw! We were told he was a stray, and that he had a brother that they had not been able to catch… YET! Based on his GORGEOUS ash colored eyes, we named him Ashton! He came home with me that day and was an absolutely snuggle bug from the start. Demodex Mange is easily treatable with antibiotics and medicated baths to help the fur grow back. And so, Ashton began his journey to recovery. Meanwhile, his brother was still out there scavenging. In October 2021, they caught him. Due to his prolonged time outside as a stray, his mange was worse than his brothers. We named him Kutcher, to go with his brother and so his journey of recovery began! He came to my home, where the two brothers were reunited for a short period of time. In November 2021, Ashton was adopted by a lovely family and he has an amazing fur-sister that plays with him non-stop! Kutcher is now currently available for adoption. Without the love and support from businesses, such as Subaru, we would not be able to aid in these special cases of medical care. Thank you Subaru! We appreciate everything you do for us!

Jordan's New View

Jordan was found by a good Samaritan and brought to CCHS at 2 months of age. Within days she developed an upper respiratory infection and conjunctivitis. She was brought to the emergency vet and two days later she was no better… in fact alarmingly worse. One of our local vets was able to see her but two days later she was back at the vets office with no improvement and there was major concern that she was going to lose sight in both eyes. She had developed severe viral conjunctivitis! She was sent home with a laundry list of meds and a dedicated foster mom did a great job nursing her back to health. It was touch and go for several weeks but with proper vet care and a dedicated foster, both eyes continued to improve and returned to ‘normal’. Without the extensive veterinary care Jordan would have lost vision in both eyes. Veterinary care is so expensive and it is because of our partners like Riverside Subaru that we are able to help these babies when they are brought to us. Jordan is now thriving and has found her forever home. Thank you Riverside Subaru for making these happy endings possible.

Colonial Capital Humane Society

Colonial Capital Humane Society is the only no kill shelter in Craven county and we are funded strictly through donations and run primarily by volunteers. Riverside Subaru has been such an amazing partner over the past several years and has allowed us to do great things to support the welfare of our shelter dogs. Aside from the basic vaccinations, spay/neuter and general wellness care we have been able to do a little extra for some of our special needs cases. Extra costs for training, medical specialists and special equipment wouldn't be possible without the support and generosity of Riverside Subaru. For example, Charlie Dash was with us for a year and a half. He went on trial adoption 6 different times and kept being returned due to bad behaviors. CCHS decided we needed to do better by Charlie and we sent him to obedience school. After 6 week board and train Charlie was back on the market and was officially adopted in October of this year. The support we get from Riverside is amazing and it truly helps us do better by the animal we represent. Thank you Subaru!!!

Scooter... A New Lease on Life

Colonial Capital Humane Society is a non-profit animal shelter located in New Bern, NC. We are the only non-kill shelter in our County and we rely heavily on volunteers and community support to fulfill our mission. CCHS is committed to rescuing and relieving the suffering of abused, abandoned and stray animals. We provide spaying/neutering for all our animals. We also administer all the up to date shots and vaccinations. Ultimately we get them healthy and ready for families of their own. Eastern NC has a high incidence of heartworms in dogs and oftentimes our dogs come to us infected with this dreadful parasite. CCHS takes on that burden of care and treatment of these animals and commits to nursing them back to health. Our partnership with Riverside Subaru over the past several years helps make it possible to afford to care for these animals in our shelter. Each year they sponsor an adoption event for our dogs and cats. We use this opportunity to showcase our animals as well as educate the community on the importance of good pet care. For example, Scooter was a small senior toy poodle who wasn't doing well and was taken to the vet by his owners. When he was examined, he desperately needed some dental work due to his age and tooth decay over the years. Scooters folks had taken pretty good care of him but this expense wasn't something they were willing to pay for a 9 year old dog. So they instructed the veterinarian to put him down because the cost for treatment was too much. The vet reached out to a volunteer with Colonial Capital Humane Society and the owners surrendered the dog. CCHS quickly found a foster Scooter and got him to a vet for treatment. He was neutered and got his dental work done. He now will be able to live a long, happy life. After his surgery, Scooter's foster mom decided she couldn't live without him and finalized his adoption at the Subaru 'Share the Love' adoption event for CCHS. Because of the generosity of community sponsors like Riverside Subaru, we can do what is right for the animals in our care. The genuine support of the team members at Riverside has an amazing impact in our community and we are blessed to work side by side with them and are looking forward to future events.

Darling Dale's Rescue

Colonial Capital Humane Society is a non-profit animal shelter located in New Bern, NC. We are the only non-kill shelter in our county and we rely heavily on volunteers and community support to fulfil our mission. CCHS is committed to rescuing and relieving the suffering of abused, abandoned and stray animals. We provide spay/neuter for all our animals, get them up to date on vaccinations, and get them healthy and ready for families of their own. Eastern NC has a high population of feral cat colonies. These colonies produce many kittens that deserve opportunities for healthy and happy homes. Our partnership with Riverside Subaru over the past several years helps make it possible to afford to rescue many of these kittens and address their health needs. Stray kittens are at high risk for disease as their immune systems are weak. Each year Subaru sponsors an adoption event for our dogs and cats. We use this opportunity to showcase our animals as well as educate the community on the importance of good pet care and spay and neuter. For example, Dale was a very young tiny kitten who came to us after the death of his mother. Thanks to loving foster homes, he was able to be rescued by Colonial Capital and bottle fed until he was healthy and old enough to eat on his own. Dale was the only kitten in his litter to survive. Not long after his rescue, Dale began to exhibit systems of feline herpes, which is common in kittens born in the wild. Feline herpes can cause respiratory issues and significant eye infections in kittens. Dale’s eye infections progressed quickly, and it was initially thought that he would need both of his eyes removed to relieve him of the infection and pain. Donations provided by Subaru enabled us to afford this expensive surgery for Dale. Thanks to a local veterinarian who was willing to try some creative medications, Dale only required removal of one of his eyes and his remaining eye in now completely normal.

Each year they sponsor an adoption event for our dogs and cats. We use this opportunity to showcase our animals as well as educate the community on the importance of good pet care. For example, Dolly a Great Pyrenees came to us as a stray with a horrible limp, scared and severely malnourished. After a stop at the vet we learned not only was her hip dislocated she was also positive for heart worms and Lyme disease. Dolly went to a great foster home after being spayed and will soon start treatment for the heart worms and Lyme disease too. We will send Dolly off to a specialist for her hip. Because of the generosity of community sponsors like Riverside Subaru, we can do what is right for these animals in our care. The genuine support of the team members at Riverside have had an amazing impact in our community and we are blessed to work side by side with them and are looking forward to future events.
